3. Excessive Thirst
Excessive thirst is one of the signature signs of prediabetes. If you’re drinking a lot of water, and you find that you need more and more of it and just can’t get your thirst quenched, then you might have borderline diabetes or diabetes. Basically, all that glucose in your bloodstream actually prevents water from being absorbed into your bloodstream, and you just can’t get your thirst satisfied no matter how much you drink.
One of the accompanying symptoms is usually dry mouth, and with that frequent thirst comes frequent urination. There aren’t any serious complications with increased thirst in and of itself if the people suffering from it have access to water, but the issues start to arise in cases of the elderly or if someone can’t get around or get access to water or other hydrating liquids.
They can get extremely dehydrated, and that is very dangerous. The best solution is to always have water on-hand. If you know an elderly person with diabetes, stock them up with bottled water and make sure they can always get to the tap and refill a bottle if they aren’t able or willing to wash their dishes regularly.
