14. Eat Foods With a Low Glycemic Index
What is the glycemic index? The glycemic index was first created to gauge the body’s blood sugar response to foods that have carbs. Both what you eat, and how much you eat of it, affect the body’s blood sugar.
Eating low-glycemic foods in the long-term has been shown to help reduce blood sugar levels in diabetics (both type 1 and type 2 diabetics). Even though the glycemic index of foods is something to keep in mind, the amount of carbs is also important.
There are many delicious foods with a low glycemic index. Combining them with delicious meals can be a new hobby of yours. Some good low glycemic index foods include sweet potatoes, beans, yams, lentils, seafood, meat, eggs, oatmeal, and other whole foods.
Start to transition your diet to a low glycemic index diet, and you’ll have improved blood sugar levels over the long-term. You’ll also get healthier in general. Stick to this diet if you have a risk of developing high blood sugar.
