4. Frequent, Excessive Urination
Frequent, excessive urination associated with diabetes is sometimes referred to as polyuria. You might find yourself going to the bathroom more often, and you might have a larger volume of urine. You might also have more urinary tract infections. Excessive thirst and urination are two of the classic diabetes symptoms.
When you have diabetes, too much glucose builds up in your blood, and your kidneys have to work a lot harder to flush all that blood sugar out. The kidneys will first try to filter and absorb the sugar, but if they can’t keep up, they will start to flush it out.
All that sugar is going to take some fluids with it. All that fluid leaving your tissues makes you dehydrated, and that’s excessive thirst comes in. As you gulp down more fluids to quench your thirst, you’ll want to go to the bathroom even more. It’s a vicious, wet cycle.
